COME AND SING TOGETHER

This traditional Hungarian song is easy to learn and has a catchy melody, with a few rhythm changes.
One session was enough for the students to learn it. Thombs up!!!

BODY PERCUSSION

Using our own bodies, we are learning to create simple rythm patterns. Or maybe...hum... not so simple...like the traditional spanish rythm pattern, called Panaderas.

The music for this commercial was composed and recorded by the teacher. It will be used as an example on how to create music to go along with any kind of footage.

TWENTY/TWENTY

NEW YEAR, NEW PROYECT, NEW SONG

After the holidays we just started a new proyect in the form of a song, MAD WORLD. The students liked it right from the start, and have learned it quite quickly. The next step is to record it in video and upload it in the blog. The idea is to perform it live- maybe at the talent show.

A REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS

This next proyect will be developed outside the school´s schedule, which makes it an extracurricular activity...and of a very special nature, I must add. It involves working with disable kids, and could be placed under the umbrella of music-therapy.

A CALL TO THE OUTBACK

Yesterday, the student Daniel Gómez presented to the class an instrument his uncle bought in Australia, the Didgeridoo. He gave us a little lecture explaining its construction and uses in magical and healing ceremonies. The instrument is basically a hollow wooden tube -emptied by termites- and one blows on it creating a very particular sound.
The special technique for playing this instrument involves the so called circular breathing, where the air exhaled creates a continuous flow, never stoping for inhaling. This is achieved by sparing a pocket of air in the cheeks that is released while quickly breathing in.

SO FAR, SO GOOD

SO FAR, SO GOOD

After a worm-up in which we worked on several songs, like Yellow Submarine, Don´t Worrie Be Happy and a few others, we are getting ready to start a creative project, with the students writing their own lyrics for a rap song. This is aimed to participate in a work-shop held by the chief department teacher, Gemma Barrueco. The goal is to write, perform and record the piece and, if suitable, share it with the whole world through this blogg.
Also, Abby -our assistant teacher- helped the group with the lyrics of a new song, Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison), and we will perform it in class.

Creating my blog

After a week touring the east coast of Spain, we go back to our work in proyects. Currently working with the song Don´t Worrie, Be Happy, by Bobby Mc Ferrin, we approach it from every angle: rithm, melody, harmony and lyrics. In this last field we have the help of our support teacher, Abby.
